Natural Ingredients from Tropical Fruits
* This topic is related to COP16 goal 9.
The project “Natural Ingredients from Tropical Fruits” by Biotec Corporation focuses on maximizing the use of residual biomass from tropical fruit crops and agroindustrial processes. This initiative aims to transform these residues into high-demand natural ingredients, promoting a circular and sustainable economy. By employing minimal processing technologies, substances are obtained directly from nature, aligning with global sustainability and health trends. This approach not only maximizes the use of available regional resources but also strengthens production chains, creates new jobs, and fosters a sustainable tropical bioeconomy. Through this project, Biotec Corporation drives innovation and economic development, positioning the region as a leader in high-quality natural ingredient production.
Sustainable Local Bioeconomies
* This topic is related to COP16 goal 15.
Colombia is recognized as a potential “world pantry” due to its rich agrodiversity. However, the natural capitals of this local agrobiodiversity are not always integrated into the development dynamics of the territories. Biotec Corporation is leading the way with the creation of policies and interventions in rural areas based on local biodiversity, proposing innovative natural solutions. These solutions focus on food and nutritional systems, non-timber forest products, and nature tourism. Additionally, the initiative includes the training and capacity building, both formal and informal, to promote formal employment and income generation in small, medium, and large enterprises within local bioeconomies. All these efforts, articulated with BIO productive chains, drive sustainable economic development and strengthen rural communities.

Impact Project
IECAM – Innovation in the farmer economy
Technological innovation for high value-added agroindustrial enterprises in the farmer social economy. In Northern Cauca, small farmers cultivate and harvest about 30 varieties of plantain, including five commercial varieties and various local varieties. The project focuses on implementing good healthy agricultural practices in the plantain agroindustry, in collaboration with associated rural entrepreneurs in the region. This initiative aims not only to improve the quality and sustainability of production but also to increase the added value of agricultural products, thereby strengthening the rural worker social economy.
