Colombia BioConnects COP16 Website 

The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT provides the Colombia BioConnects COP16 website (COP16 Website). The Cop16 website is a digital platform to promote collaboration between academic and research institutions in Colombia. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it through our compliance with the Alliance privacy policy. This privacy notice informs you about the data we collect from you or that you may provide (“Personal Information”) as you use the COP16 website and any of its related services (collectively, “Services”), and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that Personal Information. It also describes your rights regarding our use of your Personal Information. When we collect any personal information, we act as a data controller. We are legally required to provide you with information about who we are, why and how we use your data, and the rights you have over your data.

Bioversity International and Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical, international organization that formed the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT. Our address is:

2. What personal data do we collect? 

We will collect some information as you use the website and only collect your personal information when you create an account or fill any forms within the website.   

We collect the following website analytics information; we use Google Analytics and Matomo to collect information about your visit to our website (site analytics). This includes IP address, device information and geographic location. This data is used for internal purposes only and will not be disclosed or shared with Third Parties or used commercially. 

The personal information that we collect when you fill out the “Collaboration Opportunities” form on the website includes: Your name, email address and the name of your institution. 

3. Why do we collect this information? 

 We use the information we collect for the following purposes: 

  • Create and manage user accounts. 
  • To communicate with you, respond to inquiries, as well provide information about events 
  • To organize and manage events, including registration and any form of communication of COP16 participants. 
  • Processing your Personal Information depends on how you interact with the website, and if one of the following applies:  

 a) you have given your consent for one or more specific purposes.  

b) provision of information is necessary for the performance of this Policy with you and/or for any pre-contractual obligations thereof.  

c) processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which you are subject. 

d) processing is related to a task that is carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in us. 

e) processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by us or by a third party. 

4. What do we do with your information? 

The information you have supplied resides on our website, which is hosted in the Alliance platforms. We do not share this information with any third parties. 

5. How long do we retain information? 

The personal data is retained for as long as your user account remains active, to enforce our Policy, resolve disputes, and unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. 

However, you can request at any time for us to remove it from the database by sending an email to [email protected]  

6. Your rights over your information 

By law, you can ask us what information we hold about you, and you can ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate. You can also ask for it to be erased or ask us to stop using your information. The simplest way to do this is to withdraw your consent, which you can do at any time, either by emailing or writing using the contact details above.
